While I'm sure there's no excuse for it, I just wonder about context... is it the case that kids will run after whatever you hold out to offer them, or are they really that desperate for water?

In any case, there isn't really an excuse... but it is a war, after all, and people are prone to act a little bit subhuman when they're under that sort of stress.

Oh, I posted this yesterday, but I didn't realize you had posted this several days earlier. Sorry about that. All I can say is WTF was he thinking?

I just spent a month in Mexico and I think it's true that kids in a poor and desperate situation will run after any thing. I mean these kids were literally fighting over pencils that I was handing out. I am not sure if poverty is a factor though. I am sure American kids would fight over free stuff too.
