This article in the St. Louis Post Dispatch certainly has my interest. And with Real's owner already operating the Blues, it seems to make sense... My head is about to explode.
as soon as Checketts got involved with the Blues this thought crossed my mind, and with the stadium financing dead in Utah it certainly makes sense. Do you think it would succeed in St. Louis, I know that SLU has a great following, but would that translate to a pro soccer team?
As you may know already, St. Louis is a soccer "hotbed". At least that what we've been told over and over again. As far as that translating to support for a MLS team, I'm not sure.
Back in the 80's the St. Louis Steamers indoor soccer team drew huge crowds, but then the league folder or whatever indoor soccer leagues do and the momentum went away. When I was a kid the Steamers were a huge deal. But then again, maybe it only seemed that way because I was a kid.
I'd have to believe that a soccer team would do as well in St. Louis as it would in Columbus or Colorado or Salt Lake or anywhere else... it's not like these teams have a huge following anywhere, really. At least not as far as I can tell.
I've already emailed Steve about the move, and told him I'd buy season tickets.
